Abalone Diving

The Northern Coast of California is home to the largest Mollusk in the world: The Red Abalone. Highly prized for its gourmet taste, the Abalone is a large snail that feeds on Kelp Algae, and hides on the underside of boulders and ledges, trying to avoid the freediver armed with iron and caliper. Dolphin sells Abalone irons made from steel and aluminum, and measuring gauges in7-9 and 10 inch sizes. Dolphin also sells an AB float with dual zipper pockets, and shoulder straps to carry on your back while ascending the trails our float system will hold your abalone, tools, tags, and license/punch card as well as mask, snorkel, and fins. We have an excellent, two-piece 7mm wetsuit for incredibly low prices, hoods, boots and Kevlar palm gloves. Dolphin also offers you a variety of belt and harness weight systems to help you get down. This year (2011) fish and games are implementing a tag system for Abalone in addition to your fishing license and punch card. Each Abalone must be recorded on your card and tagged with one tag supplied with your license purchase. The limit is still three per day and must be transported in the shell.
